Profesor Dato’ Dr. Md Amin Bin Md Taff
was born on 26 July 1971 in Muar, Johor. He graduated with a Bachelor of Sports Science Education from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in 2000, a Postgraduate Diploma in Outdoor Education and a Master of Outdoor Education from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2004 and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Parks and Outdoor Recreation Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) (2010).
Started early service as a teacher from 1993 to 2001, he then, served at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) since 2001. His leadership talents were evident when he was appointed as the youngest head of the department in UPSI in 2004 and later appointed as the Director of UPSI Sports Centre (2010 – 2014). He is also responsible for elevating UPSI's sports ranking to the level of excellence, which is in the top 3 among Public Universities when leading the Sports Centre.
He became the first UPSI academician appointed as Director of the Malaysian Education Office in Washington DC, USA, from 2014 to 2017. While there, Prof. Dato' Dr. Md Amin helped with the internationalization collaboration between Malaysia and the United States.
In 2017, he became the first alumnus of UPSI to be appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) in his alma mater, and in 2021, once again, history was created when he was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of UPSI among the alumnus for excellence in leadership and praise for higher education in the country.
Prof. Dato' Dr. Md Amin has extensive experience in education, management and consulting and has published over 120 books, journal articles, proceedings, policy papers, ministerial reports and newspaper articles.
He also contributed expertise and displayed leadership credibility through his appointment as a consultant and expert panel member by various agencies, including:
- Member of the Board of Directors of Perak State Sports Council, appointed by YAB Menteri Besar Perak
- Member of the Steering Committee, EmpowerNCER Program: Academic Excellence of Perak State Prime Flow Students

- Production of Perak Ecotourism Book by publishing Everything is Here (Segalanya di sini)– related to outdoor recreational attractions in Tanjong Malim, Perak.
- Chairman of the Community Students with Community (MESRA) community project, an annual program focusing on the Perak community project.
- Chairman of the Muallim Art Gateway project in Tanjong Malim town as an initiative to fulfil the Youth City programme featuring entrepreneurship, arts and culture programmes among UPSI students with the community.

As a result of excellence in education, leadership, volunteerism and outdoor recreation, he has received various awards such as the Perak State Volunteer Award (2013), National Travel Award (2014), Excellent Service Award (1998,2006,2012) UPSI Sports Propulsion Award (2015), Alumni Award (2017), UPSI Sports Award (2018), National Outdoor Recreation Award (2018) and National Kayak Award (2023).
He has also raised more than RM10 million in funding through consultancy and research grants. In addition, he also spearheaded the EmpowerNCER Academic @Perak project, the development of UPSI Sports City, and UPSI Adventure Park, and published the National Canoe Education Curriculum adopted throughout Malaysia.
