Welcome to the School of Education  (SoE) website.

The School of Education (SoE) is one of the five academic schools of UUM College of Arts and Sciences. SoE aspires to be the centre of excellence in the areas of Education and Language Studies by developing globally competent and committed human capital who can contribute constructively at national and international level.

SoE is driven by the belief that education plays a key role in the transformation of societies towards the betterment of humankind. To achieve this objective, SoE offers state of the art facilities, cutting edge instructional technology, innovation and research based academic and professional training for the educators to acquire knowledge, skills and disposition to become leaders in teaching and administrative positions, and transform their classrooms and communities confidently to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.

SoE offers six pre-service Bachelor degree programmes and five Master degree programmes. The Masters of Science (Educational Management), Masters of Science (Principalship) and the Masters of Education (Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Technology, Educational Psychology, Islamic Education and English Language Teaching) and Master of Applied Linguistics and Master of Arts (Contemporary Malay Language Studies) are offered by coursework, writing dissertation and research. We offer M. Ed., M. Sc. and M. A. programmes at our main campus in Sintok as well as off-campus courses at Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu and Baling, Kedah learning centres. Our upcoming teaching and learning centre in Bertam, Pulau Pinang, Tawau, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak will offer the M. Ed. and the M. Sc. Programmes. In addition, SoE offers the Ph.D. degree programmes in various specialisations. Furthering its commitment towards excellence and global competency building, SoE aspires to launch the doctor of Education Degree (Ed. D.) program in year 2017.

The pre-service Bachelor degree graduates are eligible to enter the teaching profession as qualified teachers in the Malaysian public school system. Some of our graduates have also secured teaching positions in private schools, community colleges and polytechnics. Our post-graduate programmes provide opportunities for in-service teachers to upgrade their professional life as teachers engaging in lifelong learning by pursuing advance academic qualifications. Since its inception, SoE had a total of 12,450 graduates, including a significant number of foreign nationals and international. Today, our alumni are making meaningful contributions in the world of education at national and international level.

In realizing the mission set by University Utara Malaysia to be recognized as a research university, the Centre of Excellence (COE) for Educational Leadership and Management, was established in January 2016. As an educational research centre, COE Educational Leadership and Management supports SoE's commitment in developing highly competent human capital by promoting significant and original contribution at the frontiers of education through high-impact researches. COE for Educational Leadership and Management believes that in order to become agents of change and make a difference in the educational arena, the academics of the SoE in particular, and UUM in general, must stand as leaders and participate proactively in cutting-edge research, innovate relevant consultation projects, and continuously share visionary insights through world-class publications.

SoE hosts highly qualified and experienced scholars who are well recognised in their specialisation area and have contributed significantly through research and publication to improve the state of education in Malaysia.
